DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. -- Alante Fenner scored 18 points on 7-of-10 shooting Saturday to lead Savannah State to a 50-40 victory over Bethune-Cookman.
Savannah State led 37-35 midway through the second half when Fenner scored seven straight to extend the Tigers lead to 44-35 with 5:52 to go.
Joshua Montgomery added 10 points for the Tigers (8-14, 6-2 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) who shot 18 of 37 from the field.
Malik Jackson led Bethune-Cookman with 12 points as the Wildcats (4-20, 2-7) made only 14 field goals in the game.
Maurice Taylor hit a 3 for Bethune-Cookman with 21 seconds left to help the Wildcats reach the 40-point mark.
The last time Bethune-Cookman was held to 40 points was in a 43-40 loss at Savannah State on Jan. 21, 2013.
Maryland point guard Melo Trimble has withdrawn from the NBA draft and will return to College Park for his junior season.
