GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Georgia Southern didn't score in the final 4 minutes, but still held off North Carolina Greensboro 64-62 on Saturday, surviving a last-second miss.
Kyle Doyle, a freshman, hit a 3-pointer with 4:05 remaining that boosted he Eagles (11-12, 4-4 Southern) to a 64-59 lead. It hardly seemed enough in a game with 16 lead changes, but UNC Greensboro (11-13, 4-5) managed three points from the free-throw line in that span, missing two layups in the final minute, including one in the final second.
Jelani Hewitt led the Eagles with 23 points, including four 3-pointers, and was 7-for-7 at the line. Hewitt also dished five assists, including one to Doyle on the late 3-pointer, his only try from behind the 3-point line. Doyle finished with 13 points and 12 rebounds.
