WASHINGTON -- Mike Phillips turned in his first double-double of the year and Howard picked up its first victory with a 66-50 win over Division II Wilmington (Del.) Sunday in a nonconference showdown.
Phillips had 19 points and 12 rebounds -- both season highs -- while connecting on 8 of 10 shots from the field. The 6-foot-7 senior also blocked four shots.
Wilmington (0-6) -- which counted the game as an exhibition -- led 31-27 at halftime, but shot 21.9 percent (7 of 32) in the second half. Howard (1-5) hit 13 of 24 second-half shots to outscore the Wildcats 39-19 in the frame.
Leaving early for the NBA is a risky decision. Some players -- Skal Labissiere, Dejounte Murray -- slid in the draft. Some -- Isaiah Taylor, Troy Williams -- weren't drafted at all.
College basketball coaches across the country will hit the recruiting trail hard in July to target the Class of 2017's top prospects. Which players are the nation's top programs targeting?
The Tar Heels could lose Justin Jackson and Kennedy Meeks after next season. Coach Roy Williams has nearly every top-10 2017 prospect on his board.
