SANTA CLARA, Calif. -- Alan Williams played like the big man he is, scoring 29 points including an 11 for 15 performance at the free-throw line and used his 6-foot-7 frame to pull 17 rebounds and lead UC Santa Barbara past Santa Clara in an overtime thriller Saturday night 83-80.
Raymond Cowels III gave Santa Clara a 71-68 lead with a pair of free throws and 7 seconds left in regulation but Kyle Boswell crashed the party, hitting a 3-pointer for UC Santa Barbara (3-4) to tie it at 71 with 1 second left and send it to overtime.
Taran Brown hit a pair of free throws to put UC Santa Barbara ahead 83-80 with 7 seconds left in overtime. The Gauchos outscored Santa Clara 12-9 in the overtime period.
Kevin Foster scored 28 points on 9-of-23 shooting for Santa Clara (5-2) including four 3-pointers and dished out nine assists.
