MARTIN, Tenn. -- Kahlil Owens scored 16 points and three teammates finished in double figures as Morehead State defeated Tennessee-Martin 88-74 Saturday night in Ohio Valley Conference play.
The Eagles (10-10, 4-2) led 39-27 at halftime and maintained the lead throughout the second half. They led by as many as 24 points early in the second half.
The Skyhawks dropped to 4-15, 1-6 in OVC play after their 10th loss in the last 11 games.
Mike Liabo and Terence Smith scored 19 points apiece for Tennessee-Martin, while Myles Taylor added 13. But the Skyhawks shot just 34 percent from the field (18 of 53) while Morehead State made 33 of 61 shots (54.1 percent).
The Eagles also outscored the Skyhawks 36-16 in the paint.
The second annual Gavitt Tipoff Games, eight games between members of the Big East and Big Ten to be played Nov. 14-18, will feature Villanova at Purdue in the opener.
