Can 2016 beat the buzzer-beater record?

Teams have beaten the clock three times in this year's NCAA tournament. That's enough heroics to tie the previous tourney record in just two rounds, with many more games left to go.

Worst bad beats of tourney's first weekend

As usual during the NCAA tournament, there were plenty of exciting finishes and bad beats. Rob Nelson recaps the worst of the bunch for bettors over the tourney's first weekend.

Stats & Info

Simple as this: Turnovers killed the Owls

Temple was shooting 45 percent and nailed home 40 points in the paint. But 12 turnovers? Unacceptable. The Hawkeyes also did work at the line.

Adam Woodbury on his game-winner: "Was just one of those right place, right time kind of deals."

Iowa survives Temple in overtime (2:26)

John Gasaway ESPN Insider

Iowa entered the tournament having lost six of its last eight contests, but there was a lot of close-game heartbreak in that closing run. In fact the Hawkeyes haven't lost a game by more than seven points all season. Maybe Adam Woodbury's buzzer-beater in overtime against Temple will change the karma for a team that knows how to draw fouls and take excellent care of the rock.

Eamonn Brennan ESPN Staff Writer

At this point Iowa's Peter Jok and Jarrod Uthoff are a combined 12 of 36 from the field and 5 of 10 from 3. If the Hawkeyes get out of this overtime with a win they should almost feel encouraged. Almost.

Temple ties game with clutch free throws

Quenton DeCosey was fouled while shooting a 3-pointer with under three seconds remaining. He calmly hit all three freebies. Iowa and the Owls are going to overtime. Follow live

Another hot start to a half for Iowa. Pushed the lead out to 10. Jarrod Uthoff coming alive again, and the Hawkeyes' depth becoming a factor.

Jeff Borzello ESPN Staff Writer

Iowa up one at the half. Hawkeyes only made two of its final 14 shots, but Temple went cold after its 13-0 run midway through the half. Jarrod Uthoff had 12 points early, but only scored two the rest of the way. One thing to watch: Iowa has zero turnovers at the half; Temple has six.

ESPN Stats & Information

First Round: Temple (10) vs. Iowa (7)

Losers of five of their past six games, the Hawkeyes will need to get back to their strength -- points off of turnovers (16.3 per game, second in the Big Ten) -- to beat the Owls. The only issue there? Temple averages just 9.2 turnovers per game, tied for fewest in the nation. Follow live

Iowa vs. Temple. Just tipped a few minutes ago. A couple of teams that were going in different directions as the season ended. Temple won eight of its final 10 regular-season games to get into the NCAA Tournament -- and even avoid the First Four -- while Iowa lost six of its last eight games. The Hawkeyes looked like a title contender for the first three months of the season; they'll look to return to form.

Our three former coaches -- Seth Greenberg, Fran Fraschilla and Dan Dakich -- look at all the matchups, point out strengths and weaknesses and figure out what each team needs to do to advance.

Temple is red-hot, Iowa is ice-cold

If there was ever a time to make an against the spread pick, it's in this game. The Hawkeyes enter the tourney with losses in six of their last eight games and frigid shooting. With the No. 2 turnover rate in the nation, Temple should have no problem staying with Iowa. Betting guide (Insider)
