Ranking all 78 NCAA tournament champions

Villanova captured its second national title when Kris Jenkins hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to beat North Carolina. Where do the 2016 Wildcats rank on the list of other NCAA tournament champs?

They just flashed two of Georgetown's title game losses on the screen -- 1982 to UNC and 1985 to Villanova. John Thompson Jr courtside on Westwood One Radio. No cut away to Big John. Makes you think about how great that Hoya run was in the '80s.

Villanova advances to Big East semis

The Wildcats are still alive for a No. 1 seed after defeating Georgetown 81-67. Josh Hart and Ryan Arcidiacono combined to shoot 8-for-11 from 3-point range. Box score

Tremendous second-half performance for Villanova in its win over Georgetown. Wildcats were 7-for-9 from 3-point range after halftime and really locked down on the defensive end. Georgetown was 3-for-12 from 3 in the final 20 minutes, and Villanova outscored the Hoyas in transition points for the game, 20-1. Georgetown was also far less dominant on the glass and didn't have as many second-chance points; Villanova actually outrebounded the Hoyas in the second half. It came down, as usual, to the Wildcats' veterans late in the game. Josh Hart, Ryan Arcidiacono and Kris Jenkins combined for 58 points. Villanova will advance to play the winner of Butler and Providence.

Villanova out to an 12-point lead -- and the Wildcats are doing it the way they usually do: 3-pointers and in transition. Villanova is 11-for-19 from 3-point range and are outscoring Georgetown in points off turnovers, 17-0. The veteran trio of Ryan Arcidiacono, Kris Jenkins and Josh Hart making plays.

Big stat from the first half here: Georgetown had nine offensive rebounds, Villanova only 12 defensive rebounds and zero on the offensive end. Hoyas keeping up with Villanova from the permed and beating them up on the glass.

Georgetown advances to play Villanova on Thursday. Hoyas have the talent to compete with anyone in the Big East, but they clearly haven't showed that consistently this season. Had lost nine of 10 entering the conference tournament.

Georgetown's Jessie Govan has a chance to break out next season as a sophomore. Six-foot-10 and can step out and make shots to the perimeter -- but has also shown patience with his back to the basket tonight. Had 27 points in a game against Seton Hall earlier this season. Starting center Bradley Hayes leaves after this season; Govan should slot right into that spot.

At Madison Square Garden for the first two games of the Big East tournament. Have to assume Georgetown wasn't exactly expecting to play on this day back in the preseason; picked No. 2 in the league in October. Ended up as the eight-seed.
