Howry 'might' be ready for Ducks' spring drills

Associated Press

EUGENE, Ore. -- Keenan Howry, Oregon's leading receiver during its school-best 11-1 season, will have surgery to correct a chronic problem in his left shoulder.

Coach Mike Bellotti said Wednesday night that Howry might be healthy by the start of spring drills.

Howry, a junior from Los Alamitos, Calif., had 49 catches for 649 yards and eight touchdowns during the regular season to help the second-ranked Ducks win the Pac-10 title.

In Tuesday night's 38-16 victory over No. 3 Colorado in the Fiesta Bowl, Howry had three catches for 33 yards and a touchdown.

Howry was named first-team All-Pac-10 as a receiver, and third-team All-America as an all-purpose player. He was third in the Pac-10 in punt returns, and scored two touchdowns.

Bellotti also said that freshman receiver Paris Warren is transferring. He didn't catch a pass this season, and played special teams.

"He's doing it because he doesn't feel he's going to get a lot of playing time," Bellotti said.

Bellotti will travel to Pasadena on Thursday to watch Miami play Nebraska in the Rose Bowl. If the Cornhuskers win, the Ducks could be selected national champions by AP voters.
