Irish officially hire Brian VanGorder

Notre Dame officially filled one of its assistant coach vacancies Monday, hiring Brian VanGorder as its defensive coordinator.

VanGorder, who leaves the New York Jets after coaching their linebackers for one year, replaces Bob Diaco, who left to become UConn's head coach.

VanGorder worked with Fighting Irish coach Brian Kelly more than two decades ago at Grand Valley State, where he served as the Lakers' defensive coordinator.
