SEC offenses will cool off in 2014

Balance of power should shift back to the defenses next season

If you look at last season's national leaders for points per game, only one team from the SEC, Texas A&M, will be found in the top 10. But make no mistake, 2013 was a banner year for offense in that conference.

Last season, the SEC had 14 conference games in which both teams scored 28 points or more and eight conference games in which both teams scored 35 points or more. Each of those numbers was the highest among BCS automatic-qualifying leagues in 2013.

With 32 points per game per team, it was the most offensive-minded (or defenseless) season in SEC history. But here's the important question: Was it an aberration?
