Teams rising, falling in second half
Candidates to rebound from losing records, or cool off after fast starts
One of the things I look at in the middle of every October, after almost every team has had the chance to play six games, is which 4-2, 5-1 or even 6-0 teams will suffer a losing record in the second half of the year. On the flip side, I also examine which 2-4, 1-5 or even 0-6 teams will have winning records in the next six games.
I've listed below my top candidates for second-half drop-offs or turnarounds, starting with the seven teams that could go into late-season slides.
1. TCU Horned Frogs
Current record: 5-1
Projected final record: 6-6 (1-5 last six games)
Before the season, I thought the Horned Frogs would get off to a 6-1 or 7-0 start, then lose three of their last five games. Now, with quarterback Casey Pachall out and several other key players done for the season, it could be tough for the Frogs to win even one or two of their remaining six contests.
