He played just two seasons in Lincoln but left fans marveling at his talent -- and wanting more.
Not short on swagger or skill, Mitchell averaged 25.6 yards per catch and scored seven touchdowns in 1990. Mitchell followed up with a breakout season in 1991, recording 31 receptions for 534 yards and five touchdowns as Nebraska won the Big Eight title. He saved his best for archrival Oklahoma, recording seven grabs for 137 yards in a comeback victory.
Mitchell bolted for the NFL draft after the season, and was selected No. 15 overall. He had 142 receptions and 15 touchdowns for the Jets between 1993 and 1995 but played only five pro seasons.
