He was the first Buckeye to wear the No. 45 since Archie Griffin and quickly became as popular in Columbus as the two-time Heisman winner.
He started at middle linebacker immediately and won the Butkus Award as a sophomore.
After three seasons, during which he amassed 18 sacks and 50 tackles for loss, he was picked in the first round by the New England Patriots. But Katzenmoyer suffered a neck injury during his second pro season that required two surgeries.
He walked out of training camp the next year because of the injury, and he never played again.
