17. The DonDon McPherson keeps Syracuse undefeated
Nov. 21, 1987: West Virginia was threatening to pull one of the biggest upsets of the season on Sugar Bowl-bound No. 6 Syracuse. West Virginia led 31-24 with less than a minute to play, but Syracuse quarterback Don McPherson started driving his team. McPherson threw a 17-yard touchdown pass to Pat Kelly in the back of the end zone with 10 seconds left, and the Orange went for two. McPherson pitched to Michael Owens on the option, and Syracuse won 32-31 to cap an 11-0 regular season. It was Cuse's first undefeated season since its 1959 championship season.
