New Florida coach Steve Spurrier needed two games to let the staid SEC know the rules had changed. Trailing at Alabama 10-7, his offense pinned at its own 2, Spurrier didn't play it safe. On first down, Gators quarterback Shane Matthews threw a 70-yard completion to Ernie Mills. Florida kicked a tying field goal and went on to win, 17-13. Six SEC rings and one national championship soon followed.
