Jim Harbaugh says he wants Michigan to set its goals so high "that people are laughing. If they're not laughing at us, we didn't set high enough goals."

Pat Narduzzi is excited by the idea of lining up James Conner at wide out. Pitt has loads of depth at RB, and Narduzzi said his goal is to get his best players on the field, and Conner's size and hands make him an intriguing option split out wide.

Former Baylor QB Jarrett Stidham informed me he received his release from the school today. He'll have 3 seasons of eligibility elsewhere and be able to play again in 2017. After his impressive freshman year, he'll be one seriously coveted free agent.

Dave Doeren raved about DE Bradley Chubb. "We've not had a pass rusher that forced teams to adjust protections, but Chubb can be that guy." Other ACC coaches have agreed, calling Chubb potentially one of the best pass rushers in the league.

North Carolina has to play seven teams with first-year head coaches, including the opener against Georgia. Coach Larry Fedora said his staff watched six different schools to prepare for what Kirby Smart might bring to the Bulldogs. "It's chaos," Fedora said. "You're breaking down Pitt, you're breaking down Tennessee, you're breaking down Arkansas -- not including Virginia Tech for special teams. My comments to our guys: we may not see any of this, so when we get in this game, you have to be ready to change. You have to be able to adapt."

Pat Fitzgerald has raised some interesting points in regards to the Big Ten's 9-game conference schedule. He's concerned about the uneven number of home and away games for teams, and while he preferred 8 league games, he would rather play 10 than 9.

Minnesota coach Tracy Claeys praises senior QB Mitch Leidner for his leadership after competing through a foot injury. This marks Leidner's third media day appearance. "People recognize him more than they do me," Claeys said.

The coaches in the SEC are so confident in the strength of their league most believe its spot in the playoff is a lock. I asked Butch Jones if he thought the SEC champ would ever be left out. "I don't. The SEC will always be in the conversation." Will Muschamp said the SOS in the SEC "speaks for itself" and called it a "huge advantage" to be in the league. Gus Malzahn said the SEC winner "every year will be in that final four." It would certainly take an unusual situation to leave the SEC out, but with the human element involved, and the unpredictable nature of the sport, nothing is a guarantee.

Penn State coach James Franklin, on negative recruiting against his program: "We're in a position where we probably have to answer more hard questions than anybody in the country."

Josh Moyer ESPN Staff Writer

James Franklin said Penn State is finally back to 85 scholarships this year. Due to sanctions, he had just nine scholarship offensive linemen when he arrived in Happy Valley. Now, that's up to 17. Lots more competition and depth compared to two years ago.

Chris Ash makes his Big Ten media days debut with Rutgers. First question: What will he do at QB this fall? "Right now we have four guys and they will all get an opportunity to show what they can do. ... It's an open competition."

Adam Rittenberg ESPN Staff Writer

Minnesota has dropped 12 straight to archrival Wisconsin, but Gophers linebacker Jack Lynn expects the streak to end Nov. 26 in Madison. "We should get it this year," Lynn said. "There's no reason why we can't do it. The way we're working, we're quiet about it, but I can feel it with this team more than any other team that we will be successful."

Brian Bennett ESPN Staff Writer

Minnesota QB Mitch Leidner, who had offseason foot surgery, says he has been 100 percent for about a month and that his foot "has never felt better." Senior was MVP of Quick Lane Bowl despite playing with four torn ligaments in that foot.
