| | WACO, Texas -- Tom Osborne, who compiled a record of
255-49-3 (.836) in 25 seasons at Nebraska, will receive the 2000
Amos Alonzo Stagg Award for his contribution to the game, the
American Football Coaches Association announced Wednesday.
Osborne retired with the fifth-best winning percentage all-time
in Division I-A and his 255 victories rank 12th overall among coaches in NCAA history.
He guided the Huskers to back-to-back titles in 1994 and 1995,
making Nebraska just the second school and the first since
Oklahoma in 1955-56 to post back-to-back perfect national championship seasons.
The Stagg Award, named after a coach who won 314 games over 57
years, has been given by the AFCA since 1940 to honor those "whose
services have been outstanding in the advancement of the best interests of football."
It will be presented Jan. 11 during the 2000 AFCA Convention in Anaheim, Calif. | |
