| | KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee football coach Phillip Fulmer
is about to become a millionaire.
University President J. Wade Gilley will recommend the school's
Board of Trustees give Fulmer a one-year extension to his current
six-year contract that will push his compensation to $1.05 million
a year.
Gilley plans to recommend the contract extension during the
Board of Trustees' Feb. 3 meeting, Athletics Director Doug Dickey
said in a statement released Wednesday.
Fulmer's current contract, which he signed in January, pays him
$950,000 a year.
He also gets other benefits, including the use of cars.
The new contract still does not make Fulmer the Southeastern
Conference's highest-paid football coach. That distinction is held
by Forida's Steve Spurrier, who earns about $2 million a year.
Beginning with the 1992 season, Fulmer has compiled a 76-13
record for a winning percentage of .854.
This year, Tennessee is 9-2 going into Sunday's Fiesta Bowl game
against Nebraska. | |
