Marvin Lewis has told the Redskins that he will not be the next Michigan State head coach, ESPN.com learned on Monday.

Lewis, the Redskins' defensive coordinator, returned to the team Monday after meeting with Michigan State officials. It is not known if Lewis was officially offered the job.

Lewis reportedly was the leading candidate for the Spartans' vacant coaching position.
