Genyk takes over floundering program

YPSILANTI, Mich. -- Northwestern assistant Jeff Genyk was hired as Eastern Michigans' football coach Monday.

Genyk, completing his fifth season as the Wildcats running backs
coach, replaces Jeff Woodruff, who was fired Nov. 3.

Eastern Michigan completed a 3-9 season with a 38-24 loss to Northern Illinois on Nov. 22.

Woodruff, who had a 9-34 record in four seasons, was replaced on an interim basis by running backs coach Al Lavan following the Eagles' 38-10 loss to Central Michigan on Nov. 1.

The Eagles, a member of the Mid-American Conference, were 3-8 in 2000, 2-9 in 2001 and 3-9 in 2002.
