J.T. Turner granted release from team

Michigan redshirt freshman cornerback J.T. Turner has left the team after being granted his release.

A team spokesman said Turner, a highly touted recruit in 2009, intends to transfer. Turner asked for and was granted his release Tuesday, a day after Michigan opened preseason practice.

The Massillon, Ohio, native was in the mix for a starting cornerback job after redshirting in 2009. ESPN Recruiting ranked Turner as the nation's 21st best athlete in the 2009 class.
