CLEMSON, South Carolina (Ticker) -- Clemson took great delight in eliminating its Palmetto State rivals from bowl consideration.

Charlie Whitehurst and Bernard Rembert rushed for touchdowns in the fourth quarter as the Tigers rallied for a 27-20 victory over South Carolina in the 100th meeting between the teams.

Whitehurst, who completed 27-of-38 passes for 287 yards, tied the contest with an 11-yard TD run with 13:42 remaining. Rembert reached the end zone from two yards out to make it 27-20 with 9:38 left.

South Carolina closed Lou Holtz's fourth season at 5-7, the Gamecocks' first losing campaign since they went 0-11 in 1999.

South Carolina ended the season with a five-game losing streak, scoring just 51 points.

Clemson (7-5) has won five of its last six meetings against South Carolina to take a 60-36-4 lead in the all-time series. The Gamecocks snapped a four-game losing streak against the Tigers last year.

Clemson took a 10-6 halftime lead, holding South Carolina to a pair of field goals by Aaron Hunt in the first half.

The Gamecocks came alive in the third quarter, taking a 20-13 lead on Dondrail Pinkins' 70-yard TD pass to Troy Williamson and Andrew Pinnock's two-yard TD run.

Rambert paced Clemson on the ground with 66 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries, while Yusef Kelly added 64 yards on 10 attempts.

Pinkins completed just 8-of-14 passes for 179 yards for the Gamecocks. Pinnock rushed for 68 yards on 11 carries.
