TULANE 27, NORTHWESTERN ST 24 (OT)

9/7/2003

NEW ORLEANS (Ticker) -- After a short week, Tulane got more
than it bargained for from Division I-AA power Northwestern
State.

P.J. Losman threw four touchdown passes, including a 23-yarder
to Mawelde Moore in overtime, as the Green Wave escaped with a
27-24 victory.

Losman, who nearly engineered a comeback in Monday's 38-35 loss
to Texas Christian, answered Tommy Hebert's 24-yard field goal
that gave the Demons a 24-21 lead.

Losman and Moore also hooked up for a pair of touchdowns in the
first half.

Losman completed 29-of-48 passes for 353 yards and has thrown
for 656 yards in the first two games. His 15-yard strike to
Tristen Smith gave Tulane (1-1) a 21-14 lead with 8:07 left in
regulation.

Northwestern State (1-1) forced overtime on Davon Vinson's
10-yard TD toss to Mark Morriss with 2:41 remaining.

Moore caught touchdown passes of 32 yards in the first quarter
and 28 yards early in the third as the Green Wave built a 14-3
lead.

But Northwestern State proved stubborn, tying it at 14-14 early
in the fourth quarter on Vinson's one-yard run and his
conversion pass to Morris.

Vinson was 19-of-34 for 264 yards.
