After the Flyers closed to 27-21 on Staley's 19-yard TD pass to
Matt Ryan with 5:47 to play, Macchi found Giancola for a 78-yard
touchdown 67 seconds on a third-and-8 play to put the Crusaders
ahead by 12.
Geno Mattioda scored on a 3-yard run with 2:24 remaining to pull
the Flyers within five, and Dayton forced the Crusaders to punt.
Dayton got the ball at its own 10 with 1:48 remaining and drove
to the Valparaiso 16, where the drive stalled with four
incompletions. Valparaiso took possession with 41 seconds left and
ran out the clock.
The loss snapped Dayton's 10-game conference winning streak. It
