WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) -- Bruce Perry rushed for 237 yards and
three touchdowns and Maryland rallied to defeat Wake Forest 41-28
The Terrapins (9-3, 6-2 ACC) finished alone in second place in
the ACC with the victory, and kept alive their hopes of posting a
third consecutive 10-win season. They will play in the Gator Bowl
on New Year's Day in Jacksonville, Fla., most likely against West
The setback was the third in a row and sixth in eight games for
Wake Forest (5-7, 3-5), which would have become bowl-eligible with
Wake Forest's Chris Barclay rushed for 243 yards on 28 carries,
marking the first time in league history and only the fifth time in
NCAA history that opposing backs had more than 200 rushing yards in
the same game.
Perry scored on runs of 49 and 80 yards within a 1:40 span in
the third quarter that put the Terrapins ahead to stay.
The first came after one of two third-period interceptions
thrown by Wake Forest's Cory Randolph.
The second TD run followed Barclay's third and final TD of the
day, a 74-yard romp.
The Terrapins added a final touchdown by Perry from 2 yards out
early in the fourth quarter.
The Terrapins amassed 537 yards on 67 plays, an average of 8.0
yards per play. They had 339 yards on 45 rushes.
Maryland quarterback Scott McBrien was 12-for-22 for 198 yards.
Wake Forest picked up 424 yards, but Randolph's two second-half
interceptions and a blocked punt that led to the Terrapins' final
touchdown hurt the team.
Perry's only other 200-yard game came two years ago when he ran
for 276 yards in a 27-20 Terrapins victory against Wake Forest.
