STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) -- With Vernand Morency gobbling up yards,
Oklahoma State may not need to pass.
Morency rushed for 184 yards, and Donovan Woods threw his first
touchdown pass to lead Oklahoma State to a 38-21 win over Tulsa on
"I think we're going to settle in to throwing the football more
than we have," Oklahoma State coach Les Miles said. "I think we
will improve. I think we will be fine throwing the football."
Woods tossed a 46-yarder to Chijuan Mack and scored twice from
the 1-yard line, and Morency added a 6-yard touchdown as the
Cowboys (2-0) beat their rivals for the third straight time.
Uril Parrish rushed for 81 yards on 23 carries for Tulsa (0-2),
which has not won in Stillwater since 1951 and lost to another Big

As Woods struggled with his passing, Morency was breaking
tackles and switching direction throughout the game. He added to
the 261 yards he amassed in Oklahoma State's opening win over UCLA.
"He is a great back," Tulsa coach Steve Kragthorpe said. "He
has good vision. He sees the field well and makes good cuts. He
runs behind his pads pretty well for a guy that weighs around
Woods, who was 2-for-8 for 25 yards against the Bruins, was
3-for-8 for 70 yards against Tulsa. His long pass to Mack made it
24-7 in the third quarter.
"He can throw the football," Miles said. "There was a dropped
ball and a few other things. Besides a few things he was right on
Oklahoma State might not need much production from Woods, a
redshirt freshman, if it continues to gain yards on the ground. The
Cowboys rushed through Tulsa for 276 yards after gaining 426
against the Bruins.
Darrent Williams returned a punt 59 yards for a score, the third
of his career, to give the Cowboys a 38-7 lead with 8:36 remaining.
Kilian threw 35 yards to Montiese Culton, and Brandon Diles scored
from the 1 to complete the scoring.
Oklahoma State took advantage of great field position, starting
three drives in Tulsa territory and frequently pinning the Golden
Hurricane inside their 20. The Cowboys also got a field goal off
Ashlan Davis' third-quarter fumble.
Woods' 1-yard dive with nine seconds left in the second quarter
gave Oklahoma State a 14-7 halftime lead on a drive that started at
Kilian, who was 15-for-28 for 168 yards, hit Garrett Mills on a
crossing pattern from the 7 to give the Golden Hurricane a 7-0
lead. Kilian's 33-yard lob to Davis spurred the 70-yard drive.
"I think we're still trying to get our identity as a football
team right now," Kilian said. "We cannot rely on last year, but
certainly we are farther along."
