Akron 35, Ball State 23

AKRON, Ohio (AP) -- Brett Biggs rushed for 195 yards and scored three touchdowns, and Domenik Hixon scored twice to lead Akron to a 35-23 win over Ball State on Saturday night.

Biggs ran 3 yards for a score and caught a 44-yard TD pass from Charlie Frye in the first half. Hixon added a 9-yard TD catch 34 seconds before halftime to give the Zips (4-4, 4-1 Mid-American Conference) a 21-7 lead.

Hixon returned a punt 85 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter and Biggs ran for a 14-yard score early in the fourth to make it 35-10. Biggs rushed 31 times and caught five passes for 86 yards.

Adell Givens led the Cardinals (1-7, 1-4) with 141 yards rushing and three touchdowns on 23 carries, but two of the scores came after Akron took its 25-point lead. Givens' touchdown runs were from 5, 10 and 18 yards.

Dante Ridgeway caught 14 passes for 158 yards for Ball State.

Frye completed 21 of 33 passes for 246 yards without an interception.
