Iowa's home win streak ends with OT loss

IOWA CITY, Iowa (SportsTicker) -- Jerome Jackson did a suitable Mike Hart impersonation when it counted.

Filling in for the injured Hart down the stretch, Jackson scored on a 1-yard run up the middle in overtime to lift Michigan to a 23-20 Big Ten Conference triumph over Iowa, which had its school-record 22-game home winning streak snapped.

Chad Henne completed 14-of-21 passes for 207 yards, two touchdowns and an interception and Jason Avant had seven catches for 105 yards and a score for Michigan (5-3, 3-2 Big Ten), which won consecutive games for the first time this season.

The Hawkeyes (5-3, 3-2), who had not lost at Kinnick Stadium since falling to Iowa State in 2002, held a 14-10 lead before Steve Breaston caught a short screen pass from Henne and ran 52 yards down the left sideline for a score with 8:51 remaining.

Each team had a fruitless possession before Iowa got the ball at its own 12 with 2:42 left and marched down the field behind quarterback Drew Tate, whose 30-yard pass to Herb Grigsby gave the Hawkeyes first down at the Michigan 21 with more than a
minute remaining.

But the Hawkeyes did not attempt to find the end zone and settled for a 32-yard field goal by Kyle Schlicher with no time remaining that sent the game into overtime.

Iowa got the ball first but only could muster a 28-yard field goal by Schlicher that opened a 20-17 advantage. Two plays later, Henne threw an 18-yard pass to Avant to the five, and Jackson was handed the ball the next three plays, scoring on his final carry to end the contest.

The Big Ten Freshman of the Year last year, Hart had been hampered by a left hamstring injury most of this season and left in the first half with a right ankle injury. True freshman Kevin Grady gained 62 yards on 18 carries and Jackson had 11
rushes for 44 yards in his absence.

Tate went 27-of-39 for 288 yards, two touchdowns and one interceptions and Albert Young gained 153 yards on 30 carries for the Hawkeyes.
