UC Davis 20, Cal Poly 13

DAVIS, Calif. (AP) -- Jon Grant rushed for a 1-yard score with 4:23 to play, and Tony Kays caught 13 passes for 212 yards in UC Davis' 20-13 victory over Cal Poly on Saturday.

Kays' 58-yard catch set up Grant's go-ahead score for the Aggies (5-3, 3-1), who matched Cal Poly's record atop the Great West Conference. UC Davis' defense held the Mustangs to 113 yards of total offense.

Grant was 21-of-44 for 307 yards and one score for UC Davis, which has won five of six -- including a victory over Stanford -- since two season-opening losses.

Kenny Chicoine returned an interception 59 yards for a score early in the fourth quarter to tie it for the Mustangs (5-3, 3-1), but freshman quarterback Matt Brennan was sacked twice while trying to lead Cal Poly's final drive in the so-called "Horseshoe Classic" rivalry game. Brennan was 8-of-18 for just 58 yards in his first start.

Blaise Smith caught a 32-yard TD pass from Grant with 32 seconds left before halftime, putting UC Davis up 10-6.
