TAMPA, Florida (Ticker) -- Taurus Johnson picked a good time to finally reach the end zone.

Johnson hauled in a 29-yard touchdown reception from Matt Grothe late in the fourth quarter to lift South Florida to an exciting 21-20 victory over Florida International.

A true sophomore, Johnson played 12 games in his freshman campaign but never recorded a TD.

But after failing to have even one catch in the Bulls' season opener last week, the 6-1 Johnson rebounded with his best career performance Saturday, collecting 106 yards on six receptions.

The Bulls trailed, 20-7, with five minutes left in the third quarter when Johnson scored on a 14-yard reverse for his first career touchdown. He gave USF the lead for good with 2:29 remaining in the contest with his first career TD reception.

Making his first collegiate start, Grothe completed 15-of-28 attempts for 174 yards and two interceptions. He also ran for 82 yards on 16 carries to lead the Bulls (2-0) to a win in the first ever meeting between the two schools.

Josh Padrick went 20-for-33 for 238 yards and a TD for the Golden Panthers (0-2), who controlled the time of possession but converted just 5-of-16 third downs.
