EAST HARTFORD, Connecticut (Ticker) -- It has been a long time
since Wake Forest was this good.
Micah Andrews and Rich Belton each rushed for a touchdown and
the Demon Deacon defense clamped down on in the second half once
again as Wake Forest posted a 24-13 road victory over
Wake Forest is now 3-0 for the first time since 1987 and on its
first three-game winning streak since 2004.
Andrews, who rushed for 73 yards on 21 carries, scored on a
six-yard run with 3:09 left in the first quarter to give the
Demon Deacons a 14-7 lead.
Lou Allen scored on a 15-yard run with 3:23 left in the opening
half but Matt Nuzie missed the extra point and the Huskies (1-1)
trailed at the half, 14-13.
Sam Swank kicked a 43-yard field goal midway through the fourth
quarter, and after the Demon Deacon defense held the Huskies on
downs, Belton iced the game with a six-yard TD run with 1:39
Wake owes most of its fast start this season to its defense.
The Demon Deacons shut the Huskies out in the second half and
have allowed just three points after halftime this season.
Defensive end Jeremy Thompson opened the scoring with an 86-yard
interception return just 3 1/2 minutes into the game to give
Wake a 7-0 lead.
