Tulane 42, Army 28

NEW ORLEANS (AP) -- Apparently homecoming and Army bring out the
best in Tulane senior quarterback Lester Ricard and the Green Wave

Ricard passed for 409 yards and three touchdowns Saturday to
lead Tulane to a 42-28 non-conference victory against the Black

It was the second-highest passing yardage of Ricard's career; he
threw for 417 against UAB on Oct. 23, 2004 -- the last time the
Green Wave played a homecoming game in New Orleans.

Tulane's point total and yardage total (586) were its highest
since a 45-31 victory over Army on Nov. 13, 2004, when the Green
Wave gained 593 yards.

For the third consecutive game, Ricard was not sacked. In
addition, running back Matt Forte had his fourth straight 100-yard
rushing game.

"I felt confident behind my offensive line," said Ricard, who
completed passes to nine different receivers. "They were
consistent. I was consistent throwing the football and the
receivers were consistent catching it. Matt made a lot of plays. We
really got things moving."

Ricard completed 33 of 43 and had scoring throws of 15 yards to
Brian King, 23 yards to Michael Batiste and 5 yards to Gabe
Ratcliff. It was the fourth-most passing yards in Tulane history.

"I think Lester's a lot more comfortable now than he was
earlier in the season," Tulane coach Chris Scelfo said. "He has
four new starters on the offensive line this season and it takes a
quarterback a while to get comfortable behind a new line."

Forte rushed for 124 yards and two touchdowns on 24 carries for
the Green Wave (3-5). He also caught five passes for 54 yards.

Army freshman quarterback Carson Williams, making his first
collegiate start, completed 16-of-24 for 194 yards and three
touchdowns with two interceptions. Tim Dunn caught four passes for
113 yards and two touchdowns.

"I thought he did a good job for a first-time freshman," Black
Knights coach Bobby Ross said. "You don't want to play freshmen at
West Point. He hung in there very well. He had a couple of
interceptions early in the game, but after that I felt he was OK."

The Black Knights (3-6) trailed 17-6 at halftime, but got within
17-13 on the first possession of the second half when Williams
threw a 16-yard touchdown pass to Walter Hill.

Tulane extended its lead to 30-13 on Andre Anderson's 4-yard
touchdown run and Ricard's 23-yard touchdown pass to Batiste.

Army struck back on Williams' 71-yard touchdown pass to Dunn
late in the third quarter.

Tulane increased the lead to 36-20 when Forte scored on a 9-yard
run early in the fourth quarter. The Green Wave made it 42-20 on
Ricard's 5-yard pass to Ratcliff. The Black Knights blocked three
of Brian Thevenot's extra-point attempts.

With 4:19 left in the game, Williams threw a 10-yard touchdown
pass to Dunn and a 2-point conversion pass to Corey Anderson to
pull Army to the final score, 42-28.
