CONWAY, S.C. (AP) -- Jayson Foster ran for 253 yards and six touchdowns to lead Georgia Southern past Coastal Carolina 42-34 on Saturday night.
The Eagles (2-0) also got 206 yards from Lamar Lewis on 18 carries, including a 63-yard run.
The Chanticleers (1-2) were led by Mike Tolbert who rushed for 74 yards on 14 carries for three of Coastal's five touchdowns. William Richardson went 15-of-32 for 165 yards with two interceptions, but his 1-yard plunge with 3:51 left in the third tied the game at 21. Jamie Fordham had 96 yards on nine carries, including a 61-yard touchdown run to tie the game at 7 with 3:53 left in the first.
Foster opened with a 31-yard scoring run to put Georgia Southern up 7-0. His second score in the first quarter came on a 36-yard run to go up 14-7. His 55-yard TD run in the second capped a 92-yard drive to put the Eagles up 21-14. In the fourth quarter, he scored on runs of 18, 8 and 17 yards and the Chants weren't able to keep up.
