HAMMOND, La. -- Brian Babin scored three touchdowns to help Southeastern Louisiana hold off Northwestern State in a 26-21 victory on Saturday night.
Babin completed 20 of 29 passes for 291 yards, throwing for two touchdown passes and rushing for another for the Lions (4-3, 1-1 Southland Conference). Jay Lucas added 120 yards on 19 carries.
Drew Branch completed 20 of 33 passes for 256 yards with two touchdown and an interception, and Byron Lawrence added 168 yards and a touchdown on 26 carries for the Demons (4-3, 1-1).
Babin's 30-yard touchdown pass to Chris Wilson in the first and Jeff Turner's 46-yard field goal in the second were the only scores in the first half, giving the Lions a 9-0 halftime lead.
Lawrence's 10-yard rushing score pulled the Demons within two points to open the third quarter, but Babin's 5-yard pass to Andre Cryer put the Lions ahead 16-7 at the end of the third.
Branch's 9-yard pass to Darius Duffy again cut the Northwestern State deficit to two points at the start of the fourth, but Babin's 1-yard run and Turner's 40-yard field goal put Southeastern Louisiana ahead 26-14 midway through the final period. A late 18-yard touchdown pass from Branch to James Swanson wouldn't be enough in the end.
