CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- Tirrell Rennie threw three touchdowns and Northern Iowa beat Missouri State 38-14 Saturday to secure the Missouri Valley Conference championship.
The Panthers (7-3, 6-1 Missouri Valley) opened the game with Carlos Anderson scoring on an 88-yard kickoff return, followed soon by a 50-yard TD pass from Rennie to Jarred Herring. Rennie connected again with Herring on a 31-yarder in the third quarter, and with Maurice Turner on a 30-yarder in the second quarter.
UNI also scored on a punt return blocked by J.J. Swain, and Billy Hallgren kicked a field goal.
Rennie finished with 161 yards passing, completing 8 of 10 attempts.
