ELON, N.C. -- Adam Shreiner kicked four field goals as Elon rallied to beat Citadel 18-15 in overtime on Saturday.
With Citadel holding a 15-12 lead midway through the fourth quarter, Elon capped off a 7-play, 55-yard drive with a 36-yard field goal. Elon played it conservatively in overtime, running three consecutive short yardage plays before calling Shreiner back onto the field to boot a 33-yard field goal and give the Phoenix a 18-15 lead. Shreiner also connected on field goals from 25 and 19 yards out in the second quarter.
Thomas Wilson led the way for Elon, tallying 283 yards and one touchdown on 26 of 29 passing and Jeremy Peterson had nine catches for 88 yards.
The Citadel had a chance to tie the game in overtime but missed wide right on a 37-yard field goal attempt by Ryan Sellers.
