RUTGERS 29, KENT ST 21

PISCATAWAY, New Jersey (Ticker) -- Rutgers' strange three-game homestand ended on a high note.

The Scarlet Knights caused eight fumbles and recorded eight sacks en route to a 29-21 triumph over Kent State.

Ryan Hart overcame two interceptions to complete 19-of-30 passes for 238 yards and two TDs for Rutgers (2-1), which beat Michigan State in its season opener two weeks ago but lost to Division I-AA New Hampshire last week.

In this one, Rutgers opened the scoring with a safety with 3:04 left in the first quarter when a punt snap by Kent State went out of the end zone.

Rutgers grabbed a 9-0 lead on a 19-yard TD toss from Hart to tight end Clark Harris less than two minutes later. Harris, a junior, set personal bests with six catches for 108 yards.

The Scarlet Knights opened a 16-0 cushion 43 seconds into the second quarter when Golden Flashes punter Joshua Brazen was hit by Orlando Kane in the end zone and Corey Harris recovered for a touchdown. Rutgers took a 23-7 edge into the half before hanging on.

Joshua Cribbs completed 29-of-47 passes for 311 yards, one TD and one interception for the Golden Flashes (1-2), who managed just 30 yards on 38 rushes.
