HARRISONBURG, Va. (AP) -- James Madison ran for 140 yards and
four touchdowns after a scoreless first half Saturday and dealt
Massachusetts its fourth straight loss, 28-7.
Justin Rascati scored on runs of 1 and 5 yards for the Dukes
(4-1, 3-0 Atlantic 10), Raymond Hines added a 9-yard TD and Maurice
Fenner had a late 25-yarder.
Massachusetts (2-4, 0-3) was limited to just 42 yards on the
ground on 24 attempts and tried to make up for it with its passing
game. Tim Day finished 28-for-52 for 220 yards and a touchdown, but
also threw two interceptions and was sacked once.
James Madison had just 72 rushing yards -- and 88 total yards --
in the first half, but finished with 291 yards. Massachusetts had
262 yards and committed four turnovers.
Rascati, who was 11-for-17 for 79 yards with an interception,
scored on a 1-yard run with 4:01 left in the third quarter to cap
an 11-play, 96-yard drive for the game's first points. He made it
14-0 with 11:56 remaining, capping a 12-play, 63-yard march.
Hines, who had 123 yards on 12 carries, put the game out of
reach with seven minutes left after Tony LeZotte's interception and
10-yard return to the Minutemen's 24. Himes ran for 15 yards on the
next play, then took it the final 9 yards.
Fenner added 85 yards in 22 tires, including the touchdown with
Mike Douglas scored the only Massachusetts touchdown on a 2-yard
pass from Day.
