SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) -- Jon Grant threw three touchdown passes
and ran for two more scores, and Tony Kays had 10 catches for 182
yards in UC Davis' 37-7 victory over Sacramento State on Saturday.
Grant went 21-of-38 for 321 yards as the Aggies (2-2) followed
their upset win over Stanford last weekend with their sixth
straight victory in the annual Causeway Classic. Kays caught a
30-yard TD pass from Grant on UC Davis' fourth play of the day, and
the Aggies never trailed their biggest rivals.
Ryan Mole ran for 79 yards and Ryan Coogler caught eight passes
for 72 yards for the Hornets (0-4), who lost their first home
opener since the Aggies' 36-28 victory in triple overtime on Sept.
Phillip Perry caught a 3-yard TD pass from Chris Hurd midway
through the second quarter, but Kays' 61-yard reception set up
Grant's 1-yard TD run shortly before halftime, putting UC Davis up
21-7. Linebacker Joshua Edwards also forced a fumble by Mole at the
UC Davis 2 in the quarter.
Aaron Hines caught a 13-yard TD pass from Grant late in the
third quarter, and Ryan Payne tackled Sacramento State's Kris
Daniels for a safety early in the fourth.
Grant found Ryan Ramey for a 28-yard score with 11:06 to play.
UC Davis, in the midst of a transition from Division II to
Division I-AA, leads the series with its geographical rival 37-16.
The Aggies haven't lost to Sacramento State since a 48-27 defeat in
