UTEP pulls away from 'home team' Tulane

RUSTON, La. (AP) -- Jordan Palmer threw three touchdown passes,
and Texas-El Paso scored the final 21 points to beat Tulane 45-21
on Friday night in a Conference USA game at Joe Aillet Stadium.

Tulane (2-3, 1-2 C-USA) played its fourth "home" game at its
fourth stadium. The Green Wave, who normally play home games in the
Louisiana Superdome, were displaced by Hurricane Katrina and are
currently being hosted by Louisiana Tech.

Trailing 24-14, Tulane pulled within three when Preston Brown
caught a 3-yard TD pass from Lester Richard with 10:46 left in the
third quarter. After Tulane forced UTEP (4-1, 2-1) to punt on the
next possession, the Green Wave fumbled on their first play and the
Miners' Jeremy Jones returned it 25 yards for a TD to make it

UTEP put the game away in the fourth quarter as Palmer connected
with Casey Mauch for a 1-yard TD, and Marcus Thomas had a 9-yard TD
run. Palmer finished with 278 yards and threw two scoring passes to
receiver Lee Higgins.

Richard completed 29 of 52 passes for 376 yards, the second best
total of his career, and threw for three touchdowns with no
