DAVIS, Calif. (AP) -- Jon Grant passed for 202 yards and two
touchdowns, and Joshua Edwards returned a blocked field goal 54
yards for a score to lead UC Davis to a 33-21 victory over Southern
Utah on Saturday night.

Emmanuel Benjamin kicked four field goals for the Aggies (3-3),
who won their first home game and Great West Conference contest of
the season.

The Aggies scored on their first possession as Grant hit Tony
Kays for a 23-yard TD. After Larue Burley's punt hit his own
teammate on the Thunderbirds 20 moments later, UC Davis took over
and Emmanuel Benjamin kicked a 28-yard field goal.

Backup quarterback Zac Connors threw two touchdown passes to
Jerome Eason, and cornerback Brian Kofoed returned a fumble 13
yards for a score for Southern Utah (0-4, 0-2), which lost its
first game since Sept. 24.

The Aggies led 20-7 at the half after Blaise Smith caught an
11-yard TD from Grant.

UC Davis broke it open with a 54-yard return by freshman
linebacker Edwards after defensive tackle John Faletoese, also a
freshman, blocked a field goal attempt. The Aggies completed the
23-point streak with Benjamin's 40-yard field goal in the fourth.

The Southern Utah offense finally scored on Connors' TD passes
of 23 and 4 yards to Eason late in the fourth quarter. Connors, who
took over for Wes Marshall in the second half, was 13-for-19 for
135 yards.

UC Davis' defense gave up more than 17 points for the first time
this season, and the Thunderbirds scored more than 17 for the first
time this season.

Southern Utah's scheduled game against McNeese State on Oct. 1
was cancelled, and the Thunderbirds had a bye on Oct. 8.
