Dutch master: Holland powers Colorado State win

FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) -- Justin Holland was looking for a
breakout game to make up for what been a troublesome senior season.

"It has been an emotional year and an emotional week leading up
to this game," the Colorado State quarterback said. "I think with
the help of the team I came up with an unbelievable effort."

Holland threw for a career-high 419 yards and four touchdowns
and converted a key fourth down play to lead Colorado State to a
39-31 victory over Wyoming Saturday.

Holland was 20-for-37 throwing.

His biggest play came with 5:51 remaining and the Rams facing a
fourth-and-7 with a 33-31 lead. Holland hit Kory Sperry for a
31-yard touchdown. Sperry then collided with Wyoming cornerback
Brandon Bell at the Wyoming 5 and ran into the end zone.

"That was a Bradlee Van Pelt play," said Holland, referring to
the former CSU quarterback and current Denver Bronco backup.

David Anderson caught six passes for 169 yards and one TD. Kory
Sperry had two TD receptions for Colorado State (4-3, 3-1 Mountain
West Conference) which has beaten Wyoming six of the last seven
meetings in the annual so-called "border war."

"We had good protection today," Colorado State coach Sonny
Lubick said. "Justin stepped in there, stepped away from pressure
and threw the ball in there."

Wyoming's Jovon Bouknight caught 12 passes for 187 yards to
extend his consecutive game streak to 44 games with at least one
reception. He caught three TD passes and threw for another.

Corey Bramlet was 24-for-38 for 296 yards for three touchdowns
and was intercepted twice. He has eight interceptions in the last
three games for Wyoming (4-4, 2-3 Mountain West Conference)

Bouknight fumbled at the Colorado State 28 with Wyoming driving
for a possible tying touchdown with three minutes and nine seconds

"That one really hurt," Bouknight said of the fumble. "We had
played so hard up until that point."

Wyoming scored on its two possessions in the first quarter to
take a 10-0 lead. It took the Cowboys 34 seconds the first time
they had the ball to drive 67 yards. Bouknight took a lateral from
Bramlet and threw to a wide open Jason Wallace in the end zone.

They capped an 88-yard drive on their second possession with a
21-yard field goal by Deric Yaussi with 2:14 left in the first

Kevin Mark cut the lead to 10-3 with a career-best 34-yard
field. Three plays, later Darryl Williams tied it at 10-10 with a
27-yard interception return for a touchdown.

A minute later, Bouknight ran through three arm tackles en route
to a 63-yard touchdown pass play.

Wyoming made a goal line stand late in the second quarter after
Colorado State's Matt Rupp returned a fumble by Wynel Sneldon 20
yards to the Wyoming 2. The Rams settled for a 25-yard field goal
by Mark.

Bouknight, who had six catches for 107 after two quarters,
caught a 16-yard pass from Bramlet with 44 seconds left in the
half. Holland answered with a 50-yard scoring strike to Sperry with
nine seconds left to make it 24-20 at halftime.

"We never said die -- ever in this game," Holland said, "We
never gave up."

CSU took its first lead of the game, 26-24, with 7:46 left in
the third quarter on a 5-yard pass from Holland. Mark missed his
first PAT of the year.

The Rams wasted an interception by Blake Smith deep inside
Wyoming 15 when Mark missed a 36-yard field goal with two minutes
left in the third quarter.

Hoost Marsh fumbled after returning a punt 49 yards to the CSU
18. Holland found Anderson on the next play at midfield and ran
untouched into the end zone when Julius Stinson and Brandon Bell
collided trying to make the tackle with 13:06 remaining in the game
to make it 33-24.

"The football gods must be mad at us," Wyoming coach Joe Glenn
said about Marsh's fumble, one of five turnovers for the Cowboys.
"We'll have a long return like that and fumble the ball away at
the 15-yard line."

Bouknight caught his third TD pass of the game, a 22-yard
reception with 10:35 left to cut it to 33-31.
