ELON, N.C. (AP) -- Kevin Richardson ran for two touchdowns and picked up one of Richie Williams' two touchdown passes Saturday to help Appalachian State to a 52-14 win over Elon and its first outright Southern Conference title since 1995.

Trey Elder also threw for two touchdowns as the Mountaineers (8-3, 6-1 Southern Conference) stampeded over Elon, gaining 219 yards on the ground and 226 in the air compared to 96 yards rushing and 42 yards passing for The Phoenix (3-8, 0-7).

Elon was held scoreless until 14:38 of the fourth quarter, when Dwayne Ijames returned a kickoff 95 yards to cut the deficit to 45-7.

Williams, who completed 8 of 15 passes for 95 yards, started off the Mountaineers with a 34-yard scoring toss to William Mayfield at 8:59 of the first quarter.

Richardson added two 2-yard TD runs at 14:55 and 5:33 of the second, then carried in an 18-yard pass from Williams with 1:24 left for a 31-0 halftime lead. He rushed for 89 yards on 24 carries for the game.

Elder, who completed 7 of 11 pass attempts for 131 yards, passed 3 yards to Zach Johnson early in the third and 18 yards to T.J. Courman to open the fourth for scores that raised the lead to 45-0.
