HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (AP) -- Terry Crenshaw had a 5-yard touchdown run
and 2-point conversion, leading Hofstra to a 21-10 upset of
Massachusetts in coach Joe Gardi's final regular-season game.
Gardi, who announced his retirement earlier in the week, posted
a 119-62-2 record in 16 seasons at Hofstra. Crenshaw had 23 carries for 115 yards for the Pride (7-4, 5-3
Atlantic 10 Conference). Quarterback Anton Clarkson completed
16-of-27 passes for 255 yards with one interception.
Rob Zarrilli's two field goals gave Hofstra a 6-0 lead in the
Steve Baylark, who had 28 carries for 86 yards for the Minutemen
(7-4, 6-2), scored on a 5-yard run at 3:59 of the second for their
only lead at 7-6.
Crenshaw's TD run and conversion at 12:23 of the third put
Hofstra ahead for good at 14-7.
Armando Cuko's 23-yard field goal early in the fourth quarter
got UMass within 14-10. Kareem Huggins had a 4-yard TD run at 13:11
for the final margin.
