HAMPTON, Va. (AP) -- Alonzo Coleman rushed for 180 yards and two
touchdowns Thursday night and Hampton forced three turnovers in a
34-17 victory against Bethune-Cookman.
The Pirates (9-1, 6-1 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) broke the
game open in the third quarter, scoring twice to take a 27-10 lead.
Coleman started it with a 4-yard run and Kevin Beverly added the
first of his two TDs on a 6-yard run.
Bethune-Cookman (5-4, 3-3) fumbled the ball away twice and had
one pass intercepted. The Wildcats scored on Jimmie Russell's
10-yard pass to Eric Weems, a fumble recovery by Victor Johnson in
the end zone and Jesus Cortez's 25-yard field goal.
Coleman also scored on an 11-yard run, and Beverly added a
14-yard run late.
Hampton won in spite of being penalized 14 times for 135 yards.
