LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) -- McNeese State scored 24 unanswered points in the third quarter for a 34-13 Southland Conference victory over Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday night.
The victory was the third in a row for the Cowboys who are now 3-1 in league play and 5-4 overall. Southeastern Louisiana dropped to 1-4 and 2-8.
Southeastern had a 13-3 lead going into the half but in the opening minutes of the third quarter, Jamelle Juneau intercepted a pass and the Cowboys went on to score. Then Kenneth Lundy recovered a fumble and the Cowboys scored again and with 9:58 left in the game McNeese had tied the score.
The Cowboys went on to score two more times in the period and had a 27-13 lead at the start of the final quarter.
McNeese held a 324 to 252 total offense lead in the game - the Cowboys netted 194 yards on the ground and 130 in the air.
Carlese Franklin scored twice on receptions for McNeese, catching an 8-yard toss from quarterback Derrick Fourroux in the third and a 27-yard toss from wide receiver Steven Whitehead in the fourth quarter.
Southeastern Louisiana's 13 points were all scored in the second quarter.
Jay Lucas scored on a 5-yard run and Craig Kilpatrick caught a 5-yard pass from quarterback Brad Schlosser. Lucas had 53 yards on 13 carries, while Schlosser completed 18 of 24 passes for 158 yards.
