MACOMB, Ill. (AP) -- Herb Donaldson ran for 328 yards and six touchdowns as Western Illinois held off Indiana State for a 46-41 victory Saturday.
Both teams combined for more than 900 yards of total offense, with Donaldson's performance being the standout. Donaldson had 39 carries, and scored twice on one-yard runs, and from 35, 10, 9 and 33 yards out. He averaged 8.4 yards per carry, and his last four touchdowns came in the final 15 minutes of the game.
Steve LaFalce completed 13-of-18 passes for 123 yards and ran six times for 32 yards for Western Illinois.
Indiana State's efforts were undermined by four turnovers -- three fumbles and an interception. Robert Barcliff led the Sycamores (1-9, 1-5 Gateway) with 145 yards rushing and one touchdown.
Reilly Murphy completed 18-of-30 passes for 243 yards and three touchdowns. Two of those scores went to Sam Logan, who caught five passes for 84 yards and threw his own touchdown pass, a 2-yarder to Josh Jones.
Indiana State led 28-17 early in the third quarter before Donaldson took over for the Leathernecks (5-5,2-4 Gateway), scoring the game's next three touchdowns.
