Davis' two TD tosses, Jackson's two FGs lift Ball State past Toledo

TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) -- Nate Davis threw for 212 yards and two touchdowns, and Brian Jackson kicked a 27-yard field goal with 6:27 left to give Ball State a 20-17 win over Toledo on Tuesday night.

Larry Bostic rushed for 143 yards on 31 carries for the Cardinals (4-7, 4-3 Mid-American Conference), who were playing for the first time since giving No. 2 Michigan a scare Nov. 4. The Cardinals failed to convert a late fourth-and-goal, and the Wolverines won 34-26 to remain unbeaten.

This time it was the Cardinals who were on defense at the end, and they stopped the Rockets (4-7, 2-5) on their two possessions after Jackson's field goal.

Jackson kicked an 18-yard field goal with 1:55 left in the third quarter to give Ball State a 17-14 lead. Toledo tied it on Alex Steigerwald's 39-yard field goal with 12:55 remaining.

Davis, who was 15-of-30 passing, threw a 24-yard TD pass in the first quarter to Terry Moss and connected with Dante Love in the second for a 39-yard score. Moss had six catches for 127 yards.

Jalen Parmele had a 92-yard touchdown run for Toledo in the first quarter and finished with 173 yards on 20 carries.

Toledo's Clint Cochran was 12-of-23 for 136 yards and a 3-yard TD pass to Chris Hopkins.
