AMHERST, Mass. (AP) -- Liam Coen passed for two touchdowns and Chris Koepplin kicked three field goals as playoff-bound Massachusetts held back Hofstra 22-16 in the regular season finale for both teams Saturday.
UMass (10-1, 8-0 Atlantic 10) already had clinched the league title and an automatic berth in the NCAA Division I-AA playoffs starting next Saturday. Pairings and sites in the 16-team competition will be announced later.
It was the ninth straight win for the Minutemen. Steve Baylark rushed for 125 yards on 21 carries for UMass.
Coen's scoring passes were a 22-yarder to J.J. Moore in the second quarter and 16 yards to Brad Listorti, also in the second quarter. UMass led 19-6 at halftime.
Koepplin's field goals were for 34 yards in the first quarter, for 19 yards in the second quarter and 31 yards in the third.
UMass didn't score a touchdown until the first play of the second quarter when Coen tossed a 22-yard pass to Moore.
But Hofstra (2-9, 1-7) then mounted its best drive of the day, moving 76 yards in 14 plays to narrow the gap to 9-6. Kareem Huggins completed the drive with a 2-yard run.
