DOVER, Del. (AP) -- Kareem Jones ran for 176 yards and a touchdown and Vashon Winton threw two touchdown passes as Delaware State held off Coastal Carolina 23-18 Saturday night.

Jones put the Hornets ahead 7-3 with a 63-yard run in the first quarter before Winton connected twice with Shahee McBride on touchdown passes of 53 and 10 yards in the third quarter, giving Delaware State a 20-6 lead.

Coastal Carolina had two field goals from Justin Durham before Jerome Simpson scored on a 33-yard pass from William Richardson. Durham's kick was blocked and the Chanticleers trailed 20-12 with just over 11 minutes remaining in the game.

Peter Gaertner closed out the scoring for Delaware State with a 30-yard field goal with 8:23 to play. Coastal Carolina then scored on a five-yard run by Tommy Fraser to make it 23-18 with 3:58 to play.

Richardson was 19-for-33 for 187 yards and one touchdown, while adding 26 yards on the ground for Coastal Carolina. Fullback Mike Tolbert led Coastal in rushing with 52 yards on six carries. Simpson had three catches for 68 yards.

Winton was 7-for-12 for 84 yards for Delaware State, with 81 of the yards to McBride.
